Link, the hero of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda series, will be a playable character in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate for the Nintendo 3DS, Capcom announced today during its panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2014. Or rather, you can pretend to be the hero of time -- the iconic hero's weapons and clothing will be an equipment choice in the upcoming game.
From what we saw at the panel, it looks like the version of Link's equipment in the game is based on the Ocarina of Time design now that the trailer's out, it's pretty clear that the inspiration comes from Skyward Sword. In a brief video showing off Link in action, we watching him swinging the Master Sword while blocking with the trational Hyrule Shield, but he's also able to weild all the regular Monster Hunter weapons. The trailer started with the Legend of Zelda theme, so Monster Hunter fans may be treated to the music from Nintendo's game as well. The cross-over was announced for the Japanese version of the game a while back, so it's not an incredible surprise that the popular Nintendo mascot is also coming to the Western release.
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the Western release of Japan’s Monster Hunter 4G. It will feature online as well as local wireless multiplayer, and is set to release exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS in early 2015. Nintendo has mentioned before that they want to bring the characters to more platforms, and this seems like the kind of crossover fans can definitely get behind. Link is also appearing in a non-typical Zelda game later this year, Hyrule Warriors. That game will use characters weapons and items from the Zelda universe, but it incorporates Dynasty Warriors gameplay.
