UK-based Codemasters has decided to eliminate 90 redundant jobs from its European operations in order to cut costs. According to Codemasters, the decision was made in response to recent changes in the game industry, including the introduction of new game platforms such as the PlayStation 2, the Xbox, and the GameCube. The cutbacks are intended to be a short-term solution to ensure financial stability while the company makes the transition to the multiple new game platforms. According to the official statement, the company currently has more projects in development than at any time in its 15-year history, and it plans to continue work on several large-scale projects for the PC, the PlayStation 2, and the Xbox.
Codemasters will publish a number of PC games later this year, including Operation Flashpoint, Blade of Darkness, and Colin McRae Rally 2. Representatives from the company said that the cutbacks would not cause the cancellation of any upcoming games.
