Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer will be free for an entire week during Season 5. Anyone can test out the game's multiplayer from September 13-20, but it's restricted to specific playlists and with a strict time limit factored in.
This free multiplayer content will include a variety of playlists like Shipment 24/7, Ground War modes, and more. Newcomers can also choose between standard core modes, hardcore, and party modes. The access even includes some of Season 5's new content, such as the DRC — Zone 1 map and Havoc game mode.
MP free access detailsOther standard maps include Shipment, Shoot House, Dome, Farm 18, Mercado Las Almas, Embassy, Vondel Waterfront, Punta Mar, and Strike. The available Ground War maps are Guijarro and Al Malik International.
This isn't the first time Activision has offered a free week of Call of Duty, but this time it will come with a strict limitation of 2.5 in-match hours of playtime. This doesn't sound like a ton of free availability, but it will only count the time actually spent playing matches and not include browsing menus. Those who chose to purchase Modern Warfare 2 will get to keep almost all of their weapons, operators, and cosmetics to carry over with the purchase of Modern Warfare 3, which is part of Call of Duty's new Carry Forward program.
The free multiplayer week begins September 13 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET and ends on September 20 at the same time. File sizes will vary by platform, so Activision advised players to visit their preferred platform to get all the specifics.
