Chromehounds gets golden sheen
Chromehounds gets golden sheen-December 2024
Dec 4, 2024 2:33 PM

On the original Xbox, one of the most popular online titles was the far-future combat game MechAssault. Based on a once-popular pen-and-paper strategy game from FASA, a studio Microsoft eventually bought, the game portrayed a far-future conflict where bipedal armored vehicles duked it out with missiles and energy weapons.

But while FASA's efforts are now focused on Shadowrun, based on another of its pen-and-paper games, Xbox 360 owners will soon be able to engage in some scorching hot mech-on-mech action. Today, Sega announced that its own mech game, Chromehounds, has gone gold. Rated T for Teen, the game will arrive in US stores on July 11 for the now-standard third-party price of $59.99.

While it takes place in a different universe than the MechAssault games, Chromehounds sports a similar brand of towering mechanized combat. The game features a single-player campaign, where players must take one of three sides in a futuristic tripartite war using one of six different types of mechs. The game also sports online play, which will let players engage in a series of standard multiplayer modes including capture the flag, deathmatch, and free battle. The game will also offer "a persistent Neroimus war mode" that will continue the scenario featured in the main game.
