Chris Hemsworth Shares Image From Thor, 10 Years Later-November 2024
Nov 1, 2024 5:39 AM

Actor Chris Hemsworth has shared an anniversary photo of sorts for the movie Thor, featuring himself and Loki actor Tom Hiddleston from 10 years ago. Hemsworth also shared a screenshot of a press story about the casting of two "no-names" for the film, himself and Hiddleston.

"This year marks the 10th anniversary of Thor when two unknown lads were given the keys to the kingdom. It's been a hell of a ride and we clearly haven't aged a day," Hemsworth said with a laugh, tagging Hiddleston in his caption.

The press story came from Vulture, which reported in 2009 that Marvel made the gutsy call of casting relatively unknown actors to lead what would become a gigantic superhero franchise. At the time, Hemsworth was famous in his home country of Australia where he starred on the soap opera Home and Away. However, he hadn't broken out yet in America, though he played George Kirk in the opening scene from 2009's Star Trek reboot.

As for Hiddleston, he appeared in a number of TV shows and made-for-TV films before Thor, but the 2011 film was his biggest early-career hit that would propel him to a new level of stardom and fame.

The original Thor, which was directed by Kenneth Branagh, premiered in 2011 and kicked off what is now a massive franchise. Sequels Thor: The Dark World (2013) and Thor: Ragnarok (2017) followed, and a fourth film is on the way for 2022.

Hemsworth and Hiddleston are now in Australia filming Thor: Love and Thunder, which brings back Taika Waititi as director once again. The film was one of the 10 upcoming Marvel projects that were mentioned in a Marvel Studios sizzle reel that encouraged people to return to theaters. Love and Thunder is due out on May 6, 2022.

In addition to Hemsworth and Hiddleston, Love and Thunder will feature Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Karen Gillan as Nebula, and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie. The new film also brings back the movie-in-a-movie joke, with Matt Damon playing Loki, Melissa McCarthy as Hela, Sam Neill as Odin, and Luke Hemsworth as Thor.

Outside of the in-movie movie, we also recently learned that Russell Crowe will play Zeus, while Christian Bale has come aboard to play the bad guy, Gorr the God Butcher.
