TOKYO--The seventh annual CESA Game Awards were held in Tokyo today. The awards recognize the top games of the year and are chosen by the general gaming public and a special awards committee.

For the first time in the Award's history, two game titles shared the top spot. Final Fantasy XI and Taiko no Tatsujin were given the award of excellence in the ceremony.

Final Fantasy XI is an online rendition of Square Enix's popular RPG series. It was first released on the PS2 and later on the PC. Taiko no Tatsujin is a music game based on Japanese drumming. It was first released in arcades and later came to the PlayStation 2 with its own drum controller.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was awarded best foreign game. The Best Sales award went to Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire, which recorded combined sales of 2 million copies in just the first three weeks of their releases.
