Cyberpunk 2077 is even more ambitious than we CD Projekt Red first planned, and the Polish developer wants to create a game that will be even more successful than The Witcher 3. CD Projekt Red won't be forgetting The Witcher brand though, and although it's too early to talk about a sequel, CD Projekt Red's CEO, doesn't think The Witcher 3 will be the end of the franchise.
The developer's CEO Adam Kicinski, recently said this during an interview with Polish TV station TVN24 BiS. The TV station invited Kicinski for an interview following The Game Awards 2015. At the event, The Witcher 3 won three awards, including the 'Best-game-of-the-year' award.
“We're really stepping into the unknown in terms of complexity and size and problems we encounter.”
As it turns out, Cyberpunk 2077 is turning out to be even more ambitious than initially planned, and CD Projekt Red wants to create a game that's even more successful than the Witcher 3. During the interview with TVN24 BiS, Kicinksi said the following:
The project is even more ambitious than we first planned (...) we need to create a game that will be even more successful. (...) We have a long way ahead of us to reach the biggest commercial successes in the world. Sure, many people consider The Witcher 3 to be the best game in the world this year, but this is not a game that broke any sales record.
Although it seems that CD Projekt Red is in full blown production for Cyberpunk, it seems that the developer isn't forgetting about The Witcher franchise. According Kicinski, this wouldn't be fair to fans of the franchise.
It's too early to talk about it, but it's not like we're forgetting about this brand – that's understandable. (...) It wouldn't be fair towards the fans. We work within this universe for over a dozen years now and I don't think it's going to be the end of it.
We probably won't see a Witcher sequel in some years, but it's good to know that CD Projekt Red won't be forgetting the series.
