CD Projekt RED: Cyberpunk 2077 Won’t Have Hidden Catches, We Leave Greed To Others-October 2024
Oct 23, 2024 8:16 AM

Cyberpunk 2077 might still be far away, but it's undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games already when it comes to hype. That's because Polish developer CD Projekt RED has managed to build an incredibly strong reputation in the games industry both in terms of quality and trustworthiness with their previous games, the trilogy based on The Witcher.

Fans got a little worried, then, when a Polish video interview featured CDPR's President and CEO Adam Kiciński talking about the importance of the GaaS (Game as a Service) structure in the future of the company.

Multiplayer is strategically important, playing online is strategically important because we want to have a commercial leg for service type games, games which generate stable income, period to period, which are built. Of course, every game ends after a number of years, some service type games function even after ten years, but outside our main source of income, meaning big names, it’s building a stable source of income. And in the future, we can imagine a lot of connections between big games and service type games. We have to acknowledge it, it is obvious.

That's partly because CDPR, as we've known for a while, is trying to make Cyberpunk 2077 even bigger than The Witcher 3 in all regards, from its development budget to its profits. Kiciński added:

We want to experiment in new fields that were not yet explored in The Witcher. I can’t say much about Cyberpunk, although our ambitions are set really high because that is our style of work. We want to go even higher, and especially seeing how we’re having a business chat, we’re interested in Cyberpunk being commercially even more significant.

Online is necessary, or very recommended if you wish to achieve long-term success. At some point, we have mentioned that there will be a certain online element related to Cyberpunk 2077.

Indeed, we've known that as well for quite some time. Fans wanted to know whether this freshly revealed dive into GaaS would have any impact on Cyberpunk 2077's rendition of single player and its story. Well, CD Projekt RED addressed all of that with a tweet posted this afternoon - you can find it embedded below.

.@PrettyBadTweets Worry not. When thinking CP2077, think nothing less than TW3 — huge single player, open world, story-driven RPG. No hidden catch, you get what you pay for — no bullshit, just honest gaming like with Wild Hunt. We leave greed to others.

Do note that the above tweet does not mean there won't be some form of microtransactions, for instance, to purchase cosmetic items. However, we're pretty damn certain there won't be any gambling-like loot boxes in Cyberpunk 2077, that's for sure.
