CAVE Quake update
CAVE Quake update-September 2024
Sep 21, 2024 11:32 AM

Paul Rajlich, the research programmer at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) who built a virtual-reality port of the first-person shooter Quake II, has done it again, this time with Quake III Arena. Although the latest port is not a complete game like CAVE Quake II, it does show off some of the capabilities of the advanced CAVE virtual-reality system. CAVE Quake III Arena includes many of the same advanced rendering features found in the game, such as multipass shaders, curved surfaces, lightmaps, animations, skybox rendering, and more. In addition, the free map editors available for the game make it a powerful tool for those that want to import 3D worlds into the virtual-reality system.

To learn more about this innovative project, take a look at our in-depth CAVE Quake Q&A with Rajlich and visit the official CAVE Quake Web site.
