Let's say your beloved family cat--we'll call him Professor Snuggles--wasn't quite the innocent little pet you thought he was. Now, let's also say that your dog--presumably named Peter J. Ruff Ruff--harbored a big secret of his own. How would you feel? Scared? Betrayed? Confused? Well, if they were actually undercover superspies on a mission to keep the world safe from an evil cat bent on world domination, you'd bet your bippy that you'd be pretty darn proud of your little guys. You'd probably also be wondering how Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, an upcoming DS game based on the movie of the same name, managed to use the same plot as your own personal life.
Who's Making It: Engine Software, a Dutch developer with an extensive history making family-friendly DS titles such as Think Kids and its sequel, Think Kids 2.
What It Looks Like: Cats & Dogs is a side-scrolling platformer with 3D graphics. One of the cats wears a bow tie.
What You Do: A fairly straightforward platformer, Cats & Dogs lets you run, jump, and solve puzzles over the course of 45 levels. You can switch between a dog, a cat, and a bird on the fly, each with different abilities. For example, the dog is strong enough to push boxes, the bird can fly, and the cat can clean itself with its own tongue. Also, it can double jump.
How It Plays: The controls are simple: move left to right, jumping over gaps with a single button and swapping characters with L or R. You can also engage in combat, which prompts a little game of Simon Says where you respond to specific buttons on the screen by pressing them on your DS.
What They Say: "You are a soldier in a war that we cannot afford to lose...a war of cats and dogs!"
What We Say: This is going to be a very interesting war, considering you're a solider that can both double jump and transform from a dog to a cat at will. Expect to enlist when the game is released this July on the DS.
