Calling All Cars rolling onto PSP?
Calling All Cars rolling onto PSP?-September 2024
Sep 22, 2024 6:37 PM

Source: An article on UK gaming site Computer & Video Games referencing the latest issue of bimonthly European magazine PSP: The Official Guide Book.

What we heard: When acclaimed designer David Jaffe teased his follow-up project to 2005's epic God of War, many were surprised at his new tack. Rather than continuing with big-budget development, Jaffe professed his desire to create bite-sized, downloadable games, with the first being the PlayStation 3 exclusive party game Calling All Cars!. While Jaffe has since moved on from Sony to further pursue smaller-scale development, it appears his work at the company may not have completely wrapped up.

As reported by CVG, the latest issue of PSP: The Official Guide Book reveals that Calling All Cars! will soon be cruising to the PlayStation Portable. As per the report, the downloadable PS3 car-combat game will be transferable from the console to the PSP, and will offer "comprehensive multiplayer modes in both ad hoc and infrastructure." No other details were reported.

Could it happen? The game certainly fits well on Sony's portable. Designed from the ground up as a multiplayer-centric party game, Calling All Cars! deposits players in a four-way free-for-all to capture escaped convicts and return them to big house. Players are able to zip around in a variety of cartoony environments and employ an array of weapons to prevent the opposition from being the better bounty hunter.

While the PSP's wireless functionality seems to be more than adequate for Calling All Cars! multiplayer-focused gameplay, its move to the portable would be unprecedented. Up until this point, transferring games from the PS3 to the PSP has been reserved for downloadable ports of original PlayStation games. To date, recently created PS3-exclusive downloadable games such as flOw, Blast Factor, or Super Stardust HD have not been offered in such a manner.

The official story: Sony had not returned requests for comment as of press time.

Bogus or not bogus?: With no official word either way, it's impossible to say for certain. However, CVG's usual reliability has this looking not bogus.
