Call of Juarez: The Cartel--which has drawn the ire of the Mexican government--will debut for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in late June, according to major North American retail listings. The guns get unholstered at the end of June, according to retailers.
Walmart, Target, GameStop, and Amazon all agree on a Tuesday, June 28, release date for Ubisoft's Western. Call of Juarez: The Cartel was announced in February for a "summer" debut, and the purported June 28 date fits within that time frame. However, Ubisoft has yet to formally announce a release date for the game.
Unlike its predecessors, which were set during the Wild West, Call of Juarez: The Cartel takes place during modern times. As the name implies, the game chronicles a drug war along the Mexican border, casting players as a female FBI agent, a Wild West sheriff type, and an undercover drug agent. Polish developer Techland said it chose the setting in order to capture a "relevant plot" that would connect with today's gamers.
