Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Update Enables NVIDIA DLSS 3 in All Modes-December 2024
Dec 21, 2024 11:45 AM

Today, Sledgehammer Games has released a new update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. The game has been patched to version 1.33, fixing various bugs and bringing several balance changes that are fully listed here.

However, the main change is for PC players, who can now enable NVIDIA DLSS 3 (Frame Generation) across all modes. Previously, Frame Generation was only available in the campaign.

Speaking of the tech, Marc-Alexandre Milot, Design Director at Beenox, said:

Every frame of action counts in Call of Duty. Once again, NVIDIA introduces major innovations with DLSS 3 Frame Generation. Along with DLSS Super Resolution and Reflex, it allows us to bring faster and smoother gameplay to the PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III.

The uplift provided by Frame Generation isn't that great in this game. That's because Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III isn't a taxing title, as usual for a franchise that aims to deliver 60FPS on consoles at all times.

On NVIDIA's flagship GPU, the GeForce RTX 4090, the game runs at nearly 125 average FPS at native 4K resolution on the Extreme preset. Activating DLSS Super Resolution and DLSS Frame Generation bumps that to 206.5 FPS, a 1.66x increase.

The performance boost is only slightly larger for the RTX 4080, which runs 1.78x faster with DLSS 3 enabled, and for the RTX 4070, which gets a 1.89 boost.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III also supports DLAA, so gamers with enough headroom could enable it alongside Frame Generation to get optimal image quality and frame rate. Of course, Frame Generation increases latency, so it may be suboptimal when using it in competitive multiplayer modes; that's likely why the developers had originally enabled DLSS 3 just in the campaign.

In other Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III news, the game hasn't fared that well in terms of critical and user reception. There have been reports that the game was rushed in just sixteen months of development. However, it still topped charts in the UK and on Steam.

Look forward to our review shortly.
