Crossplay is one of the most exciting features coming to this year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and Infinity Ward just revealed how it will work in a new livestream. You can check out the livestream for yourself if you’ve got 15 minutes to spare, or just scroll down for a quick recap.

　　Call of Duty: Modern Warfare crossplay will require players to sign up for a Call of Duty account, through which you’ll be able to search for players on other platforms, set up crossplay parties and engage in voice chat. When in game, a pair of icons will identify the platform and control scheme (controller or mouse and keyboard) other players are using.

　　As previously promised, matchmaking will mostly pair you up with people using the same control scheme as you, although in some rare cases when not enough players can be found, you may see a mix of controller and mouse/keyboard players. According to Infinity Ward, this actually shouldn’t be a big deal, as their tests have shown controller users are quite competitive with the mouse and keyboard crowd. Whether that continues to be the case longer term, remains to be seen.

　　In other news, according to Game Informer, the new crossplay push means PS4 owners will no longer get a jump start on new maps, modes, and other DLC content. That said, PS4 players will still get an “exciting Day 1 advantage.” No further details have been provided, but hopefully Infinity Ward doesn’t mean PS4 players will get an actual competitive advantage, because I don’t see that going down very well.

　　The second leg of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare open beta, which includes crossplay testing, kicks off on all platforms this weekend. Here are the dates:
