Call of Duty Dev Hires Rise of the Tomb Raider Director
Call of Duty Dev Hires Rise of the Tomb Raider Director-January 2024
Jan 30, 2025 11:57 AM

[UPDATE] Horton is joined at Activision by another former Square Enix employee, Darrell Gallagher. As of January, Gallagher is senior vice president and head of development at Activision, according to his LinkedIn page. He left Square Enix at the end of 2015 after a decade with the company.

  The original story is below.

Just hours after Rise of the Tomb Raider game director Brian Horton announced he would be leaving Crystal Dynamics for a "new adventure," it's now been revealed exactly what that new endeavor is.

Horton has updated his Twitter bio and LinkedIn page to say he's joined acclaimed Call of Duty studio Infinity Ward in Woodland Hills, California as its new art director (via CharlieIntel). In that role, he will oversee the art direction of an unannounced project. It is a probably a Call of Duty game, given the studio's legacy.

Infinity Ward has yet to make an official announcement about hiring Horton.

With the Call of Duty franchise on a three-year, three-studio development cycle, 2016 will presumably be the year Infinity Ward's next game is released. Treyarch delivered Call of Duty: Black Ops III in 2015, while Sledgehammer Games released Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare in 2014.

Infinity Ward's latest game was 2013's Call of Duty: Ghosts, the first entry in the 250 million unit-selling franchise for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. For what it's worth, on the first day of 2016, Infinity Ward teased that 2016 is "going to be incredible," adding, "Let's do this."
