Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Unveils a New MP Map, 5 Classic Maps Also Returning-October 2024
Oct 21, 2024 1:06 AM

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be showing off its competitive multiplayer mode at E3 2018, and today developer Treyarch revealed what maps the press and fans will be able to go hands on with. Some of these maps -- Contraband, Seaside, and Payload -- were shown during last month’s big unveiling, but the livestream did provide a peek at one all-new map, Frequency. You can check out quick flythroughs of the new maps and descriptions from Treyarch’s Dan Bunting and David Vonderhaar, below. Jump to the 39-minute mark for the good stuff.

  Frequency

“It's a very small chaotic map. We're calling it "frenetic." It's got a really good flow to it, constantly moving players around and pushing them into really intense head-on battles. It's based in Hunan Province, a very large, complex listening station our Specials have gone in to assault. There's a risk of falling to your death, so you have to be careful in certain areas.”

  Contraband

“Set on a tropical island off the coast of Columbia, where an international arms smuggling ring is based. It has a very jungle-ey, ocean-ey type of vibe. We enjoyed capturing the old-world vibe, with the new world smuggling ring. Lots of underwater combat, lots of choke points on the bridge.”

  Seaside

“It's a coastal, old-world town in Spain. It was the site of a demonstration that went awry, government forces had to come in, so you see lots of tanks came in and barreled through walls. It has a bit open courtyard in the middle with sniper overwatch positions, and tight, chokey flows around the outside.”

  Payload

“It's a missile defense station that's built deep into the mountains of Iceland. You're going to play in and around a missile silo. You can actually play in and through [a dismantled missile]. It has some really tight, head-to-head spaces. The way the lanes connect up is very different than how we traditionally do it.”

Treyarch also announced four fan-favorite MP maps will be returning and available to play at the launch of Black Ops 4, specifically Jungle, Slums, Summit, and Firing Range. Of course, Nuke Town will also be returning with new tweaks, although it will be a (free) post-launch release.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 hits PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on October 12.
