Bungie Addresses Destiny Microtransaction Concerns
Bungie Addresses Destiny Microtransaction Concerns-October 2024
Oct 28, 2024 2:30 AM

Destiny's new microtransactions are currently limited to emotes only. Though Bungie may one day expand the offerings, don't expect to be able to buy items that buff drop rates for the new King's Fall raid.

Writing on Twitter, The Taken King creative director Luke Smith said, "We aren't (nor are we planning) on selling consumables that buff King's Fall drop rates for Silver."

His comments come after players discovered (via IGN) new items in the raid, such as buffs for armor and weapon drops, well as one that lets you acquire additional Moldering Shards. Some thought Bungie might sell these items for Destiny's new in-game currency, Silver. But that's not going to be the case.

Some have also wondered if Bungie might sell level-boosters, like the one that comes with The Taken King, for Silver. Smith did not respond to this specific item. It wouldn't be uncharted territory for an Activision game, however, as World of Warcraft also sell level boosts.

Destiny's microtransactions arrived on Tuesday through the game's major update, which also made a number of other tweaks, refinements, and adjustments. For more on Destiny's new in-game store, check out GameSpot's breakdown of all the emotes available in the store and what they cost. You can also watch the video above to get a closer look at the motes, including one based on "the Carlton" from Fresh Prince.
