Buena Vista Games, a division of the Walt Disney Company, said today that it will begin publishing and distributing its own games in Europe, eliminating the need for any third-party distribution channels.
The company says it will be launching products aimed at all gamers rather than confining its wares to Disney's historically strong family and children's markets.
According to a statement, the company will begin publishing and distributing its own titles in the UK, Germany, and France this summer.
The announcement comes just days after the company bought Salt Lake City-based Avalanche Software and announced the opening of a new studio in Vancouver, Canada.
While Buena Vista will be publishing the game adaptations of the Disney films The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Chicken Little, this move will not affect the existing Disney properties already en route to market with other publishers. This means that Kingdom Hearts II will be still be distributed in Europe by its developer, Square Enix, and THQ will retain the rights to publish games based on the Pixar films The Incredibles and Cars.
