Brutal Legend Sequel Could Happen if Psychonauts 2 Does Well
Brutal Legend Sequel Could Happen if Psychonauts 2 Does Well-December 2024
Dec 26, 2024 5:15 PM

Brutal Legend fans hopeful for a sequel have been given another glimmer of hope from Double Fine. The developer has now said if Psychonauts 2 is a success, then the company may attempt to revisit the rock music-themed action game franchise with another installment.

"We've always said that we wanted to make sequels to both Psychonauts and Brutal Legend," Double Fine said on Psychonauts 2's crowdfunding page (via VideoGamer.com). "We can't make any promises, but if Psychonauts is a success for us, then perhaps Brutal Legend 2 will be more possible?"

The crowdfunding campaign for Psychonauts 2 started last week on the new platform Fig, which offers equity alongside traditional rewards-based backing. It's off to a fast start, raising nearly $2 million in just a few days. For lots more on Psychonauts 2, you can read GameSpot's in-depth interview with Tim Schafer.

The original Brutal Legend--published by Electronic Arts in 2009--cost around $25 million to develop. It remains Double Fine's best-selling game ever. Schafer said in January 2014 that raising that much money--or more--for a sequel "might be tricky."

Schafer also previously teased that he'd like to explore Brutal Legend's Lionwhyte character (voiced by Judas Priest singer Rob Halford) in a new Brutal Legend game or DLC. Brutal Legend main character Eddie Riggs was voiced by Jack Black; he "might be up for" returning to the character for a sequel.
