The upcoming animated sequel Boss Baby: Family Business will hit NBCUniversal's streaming service Peacock on the same day it releases in theaters. The movie has also moved forward and now arrives on July 2.
Boss Baby: Family Business was previously scheduled for a theatrical-only release on September 17. As reported by Variety, the movie will now debut simultaneously on Peacock in the US. This is the first film that NBCUniversal has released on Peacock on the same day as in theaters, and it will be available to subscribers at no extra cost.
Boss Baby: Family Business is the sequel to the popular 2017 movie Boss Baby. Alec Baldwin returns as the now-adult Ted Templeton Jr, with James Marsden playing his older brother Tim. The cast also includes Amy Sedaris, Ariana Greenblatt, Eva Longoria, and Jimmy Kimmel.
NBCUniversal's decision to release the new Boss Baby movie direct to streaming follows similar decisions by rivals Disney and Warner. Disney is set to release both Pixar's Luca and Marvel's Black Widow onto Disney+ in June and July respectively, while Warner is putting its entire 2021 slate of movies onto HBO Max on the same day they hit theaters.
In addition, many films that are still released to theaters first will have a much smaller window before they arrive on digital platforms. Paramount has announced that its biggest films, such as No Time To Die and Top Gun Maverick, will be available on Paramount+ only 45 days after they are in theaters.
