Borderlands 3 Debuts Over 45 Minutes of Footage, New Home Base and Worlds Shown-September 2024
Sep 20, 2024 12:43 PM

A month ago, Gearbox Software finally announced Borderlands 3, but they left a lot of questions unanswered. Sure, we've got a couple nice trailers, but how would the game actually play? What new features are being brought to the table? Well, we now have a much better idea, as Gearbox just released over 45 minutes of Borderlands 3 gameplay. But first, you can check out yet another new trailer, below.

Now that you’ve had that appetizer, why don’t you scope out the full gameplay reveal?

For the most part, Borderlands 3 still looks very much like Borderlands as we know and love it, although a number of new features have been added, including sliding, alternate fire modes for most guns, cover degradation, and more. As we previously reported, the game also won’t make you compete for loot with your co-op partners -- all players will have their own loot streams. Of course, if you really love squabbling over loot, you can still switch on classic Borderlands co-op rules.

So far, so mostly familiar, right? Well, the footage gets more interesting once Gearbox reveals the game's new spaceship home base, the Sanctuary III. The ship will be home to all sorts stores, fun extras, and favorite characters from the past like Sir Hammerlock, Mad Moxxi, and Patricia Tannis. Of course, what good is a spaceship if you can’t fly to new places? Gearbox confirmed Borderlands 3 will include multiple new worlds, and showed off Promethea, which includes some heavily built-up urban environments.

And there’s more! During the stream Gearbox hinted at Borderlands 3’s story – your foes this time around are the Children of the Vault, a cult led by the Tyreen and Troy Calypso, who are essentially parodies of obnoxious Twitch streamers (somewhat ironic that this gameplay was revealed on Twitch). We also catch a glimpse of game’s new skill trees, some fun new weapons, and, well…it’s more than I can recap here. Just check out the footage for yourself!

Borderlands 3 hits PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on September 13. Gearbox promises they’re going to be revealing more about the game at various events throughout the summer, including E3, Gamescom, and PAX West.
