Bond 25 Could Feature The Franchise's First Female Director
Bond 25 Could Feature The Franchise's First Female Director-January 2024
Jan 10, 2025 5:29 PM

With Danny Boyle (28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later) leaving the upcoming 007 installment because of "creative differences," Eon Productions and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) are reportedly scheduling meetings to find another director. According to Variety, SJ Clarkson (Dexter, Heroes) has been added to its list of director options.

Clarkson wasn't the only talent added to the potential director list: Bart Layton (The Imposter) and Yann Demange (Top Boy) are also up for consideration. Both Demange and Layton recently finished up projects of their own--Demange with White Boy Rick, Layton with American Animals--making them both viable candidates for the job, according to insiders. As stated by Variety, though, sit-down meetings are still underway and a timetable for more scheduled meetings is still undisclosed.

Now Playing: GS News Update: James Bond Star Reportedly Offered $150 Million For Two More 007 Movies

It was reported that Paramount Pictures tapped Clarkson to direct the forthcoming Star Trek film, making it the first female-led Star Trek film in the franchise's 50-year history. If chosen to direct this upcoming James Bond film, Clarkson will also be the first woman to lead a James Bond film in the spy series' 50-plus-year history.

While Boyle may have jumped ship, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli will continue to serve as the film's producers. Daniel Craig, who was seemingly ready to leave Bond behind in 2015 after he said he'd rather "slash his wrists" than play the character again, confirmed he'd reprise his role as the secret agent one more time. Before Craig's confirmation, producers were scouting Idris Elba (Pacific Rim, Star Trek Beyond) to play the iconic agent.

As of right now, Bond 25--the running title for the upcoming James Bond film--is scheduled to hit theatres in November 2019. But unless Eon and MGM secure the film's director, it's possible November 2019 could be changed to "Coming Soon."
