Netflix has announced that Haunting of Bly Manor and Doctor Sleep director Mike Flanagan will be creating a new limited series titled The Fall of the House of Usher, based on multiple works from Edgar Allan Poe. No release date or production start date has yet been disclosed.
This marks the fifth series for Flanagan and co-executive producer Trevor Macy with Netflix under the purview of their overall deal together. It's also a relationship that has given us The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, the recently released Midnight Mass, and also the upcoming The Midnight Club.
Originally published in 1839, the Poe short story Flanagan is turning his attention towards next (which you can read for free online right here at The Poe Museum) is a work of Gothic fiction that explores many themes typical of the writer--if themes of madness, family, isolation, and identity crises are your thing, there will be a lot to love here. The limited series will span eight episodes, with Flanagan and frequent collaborator Michael Fimognari each directing four episodes.
While The Fall of the House of Usher doesn't yet have a release date, Netflix recently announced a ton of content with definite release dates this fall--43 movies landing on the streaming service between September and the end of December.
