Blizzard has officially announced a WoW Classic Hardcore server mode over the weekend.

　　Earlier this month, we reported on a reference in the database table for patch 10.0.7, mentioning a hardcore mode for Blizzard's World of Warcraft vanilla server option. As we wrote, players are currently only able to play in a so-called hardcore mode through the use of mods, but as now confirmed by Blizzard, official Hardcore servers/realms will be arriving in the near future. The news was announced by Senior Game Producer Josh Greenfield during the Hardcore All-Stars stream some days ago. Following this announcement, Blizzard community manager Randy Jordan 'Kaivax' wrote that more information about this new mode will be shared shortly.

　　"As Senior Game Producer Aggrend just confirmed on the Hardcore All-Stars stream, we’ve been working to bring official Hardcore Classic gameplay to WoW Classic", the community manager wrote on the official World of Warcraft Classic forums. "We’ve been very energized by the community’s enthusiasm for Hardcore, watching along with you, and doing a lot of Hardcore play ourselves." He added, "We’ll let you know much more about it soon!"

　　More details weren't shared, but as some of you might've guessed, in this mode, a character is deleted from a player's account upon in-game death. This is similar to Diablo's known hardcore mode, but whereas leveling and gearing up in Diablo is done somewhat faster compared to that in World of Warcraft, you can imagine the impact the permanent deletion of a character within WoW could have.

　　World of Warcraft Classic is available globally now for PC. Blizzard's vanilla server option launched in 2019 following numerous community requests. Later on, Blizzard also released World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Classic and World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic.
