Blizzard Enables 14-Year Old World of Warcraft Potion that Allows Players to Understand the Opposing Faction
Blizzard Enables 14-Year Old World of Warcraft Potion that Allows Players to Understand the Opposing Faction-October 2024
Oct 17, 2024 12:33 AM

Blizzard has seemingly enabled an ancient World of Warcraft potion that allows players to understand the opposing faction in chat.

Always wanted to know what your rival was screaming at you? This 'new' potion allows you do do so.  Apparently, the December 14 hotfix has implemented the ‘Elixir of Tongues’ which is available for 30g at Fizzi Liverzapper, located in Dalaran's sewer system, The Underbelly. The potion, which lasts for 1 hour, doesn’t allow players to speak the language of the opposing faction, but opposing players will be able to understand what the other player is saying if both players drink the elixir.

“Allows you to comprehend the common language of the opposite faction for 1 hour”, the potion’s description reads.

Interestingly, the recipe for this elixir has apparently been in World of Warcraft since vanilla.

“Fun fact: the Elixir of Tongues has been in the game since Classic, an ancient alchemy recipe that never made it”, World of Warcraft game designer Jeremy Feasel explained on Twitter. “Until today, it had the description text “This potion has no effect until we put languages in.””

On the official WoW forums, players are already discussing the price of this potion as its considered quite expensive by players from Role-Playing Realms.

Patch 8.1 Tides of Vengeance, Battle for Azeroth’s first major content update, was released last week.
