Today Midway announced the final features list for Blitz 2000 - features that will be implemented in all versions of the game.
You'll now be able to edit your defense plays as well as offensive ones. You can create a book of 27 offensive and nine defensive plays and have nine customized offensive plays and nine customized defensive plays. Four-player and on fire (where the offense or defense catches on fire for super power) modes will be in all versions of the game as well.
Passing will change slightly; first of all, the wind will now affect the ball (in passing, punting, etc.), and the player can now map a receiver directly to a button on the controller. If you want to pass to that receiver, you hold down the blitz pass button and the receiver button and the pass is made.
Midway says that this feature might be removed, depending on how powerful it makes the defense. But for the moment, the plan for "Defense Change Player" is for the defense to be able to switch over to the player next to the receiver instead of the player closest to the ball. As for punting, there's now a real-time punt meter and a hangtime meter. There will be audibles at the line of scrimmage, five new stadiums, eight different field conditions (all affected by the weather, including rain and snow), and each team will have a custom playbook. Also in Blitz 2000 will be something called intelligent play select AI, which means that the logic in the AI will learn as the game is played - an effort to cut down on apparent "cheating." And the CPU will apparently pick power-ups more like a human would - doing it in response to what you've picked on the VS screen, rather than randomly. You'll be able to select the camera angle from the following choices: topdown, side view, normal, pulled back, and higher angle. Other features include the ability to knock off opponent's helmets, the Browns and Titans have been added to the roster, the updated '99 roster will be incorporated into the game, a trivia mode with 1,000 questions has been added, more animations for taunts and endzone dances have been thrown in, and there are ten new secret heads.
