Now Playing: Scarlett Johansson Reportedly Getting Big Payday For Black Widow Movie - GameSpot Universe News Update

"We just wrapped Black Widow like two weeks ago or something like that, so it's very fresh in my mind," she said. "I don't have a total perspective on it yet but it's a film about self-forgiveness and it's a film about family. I think in life we sort of come of age many times in your life and have these moments where you're kind of in a transitional phase and then you move beyond it, and I think in the Black Widow standalone film, I think the character when we find her is in a moment of real crisis."

"And throughout the film by facing herself in a lot of ways and all the things that make her her, she actually kind of comes through that crisis on the other side and is able to sort of reset into a space where she's a more grounded, self-possessed person," she added. "That's her journey. Well, I hope anyway."

This is not the first time that Johansson has spoken about the standalone Black Widow movie. She previously discussed how Black Widow is a "gritty and multi-dimensional" character who "has a lot of trauma and has led an unexamined life."

Black Widow comes to theatres on May 1, 2020. It also stars David Harbour (Stranger Things, Revolutionary Road), Florence Pugh (Midsommar, Little Women), Rachel Weisz (The Constant Gardener, About a Boy), and Ray Winstone (The Departed, Cold Mountain). It's directed by Cate Shortland (Lore, Somersault), with a script by Jac Schaeffer (Olaf's Frozen Adventure, Captain Marvel) and Ned Benson (The Westerner, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby).
