Black Lightning Coming To An End In Season 4
Black Lightning Coming To An End In Season 4-November 2024
Nov 25, 2024 4:27 AM

The CW Network's superhero drama Black Lightning is coming to an end with Season 4. Slated to premiere early next year, the upcoming final season will conclude a series that we praised early on for intriguingly balancing meaningful storytelling with the genre-required violence and super heroics. Black Lightning was intriguingly not an origin story, but a story about what happens after Jefferson Pierce, as the titular hero, retires from his masked vigilante lifestyle and gets on with his life--both he and his family.

"When we first started the Black Lightning journey, I knew that Jefferson Pierce and his family of powerful Black Women would be a unique addition to the superhero genre," said executive producer Salim Akil in a statement. "The love that Blerds and all comic book fans around the globe have shown this series over the past three seasons proved what we imagined, Black people want to see themselves in all their complexities."

While Black Lightning is wrapping up, this is not the end for the universe. Black Lightning will have a spin-off with Painkiller, whose pilot will be the seventh episode of Black Lightning Season 4.

Added Akil, "While Season Four may be the end of one journey, I'm extremely excited to usher in a new chapter and continued collaboration with The CW as we tell the story of Painkiller."

Painkiller will be written, directed, and executive produced by Akil.
