Biohazard 2 Value Plus Arrives
Biohazard 2 Value Plus Arrives-March 2024
Mar 17, 2025 1:15 AM

We got our zombified little hands on Biohazard 2 Value Plus today, and along with a freshified version of Biohazard 2 for the Dreamcast, the game also came complete with a tidy little demo of Biohazard: Code Veronica.

From a limited amount of playtime with Biohazard 2, we can definitely say that it looks better than the PC version. However, it would have been nice if Capcom had redone the textures for the Dreamcast conversion. Unfortunately, the characters are still as angular as in the PlayStation version, only in high resolution. Details like the gun-shop owner's suspenders are still pixilated and low in detail. When the goons jump in through the window and attack him after the brief monologue, the glass he spits out looks pixilated and rough. It's clear that as little work as possible was done to improve the visuals. It's still the best-looking version of Biohazard 2, but it's disappointing, just as Star Gladiator 2 was graphically weak.

On the plus side, it controls well - although it lacks the true analog control found in the N64 version - and the Jump Pak responds well to the game's events.

For gamers who busted their butts trying to unlock all the secrets in the PlayStation version of Biohazard/RE2 (the 4th Survivor, Tofu, Extreme Battle, etc.), you'll be glad to know that it's all accessible from the start. Another nifty bonus is the Sound Museum in the Code Veronica demo disc. If you really think the Biohazard music is a snazzy way to brighten any room, then you'll dig the tune selection from all the Biohazard games featured here. Turn up the stereo and do the monster mash at your leisure, while the hi-res Museum screen plays the hits. If there are any other secrets to be found, we'll let you know as soon as we've played through the game. In the meantime, for full impressions of the Code Veronica demo, check out our related story.
