Bethesda’s Pete Hines is Leaving the Company After Nearly 25 Years; Bethesda Approves His ‘Resignation’-October 2024
Oct 27, 2024 8:26 AM

Bethesda's head of publishing, Pete Hines, has announced that he will be leaving the company.

Hines announced his departure via a 'written' letter on Twitter just now. After Hines' announcement, the official Bethesda Twitter account replied with a doctor's note, approving his resignation. In his letter, Bethesda's head of publishing writes that he's looking forward to a new chapter in his life. "After 24 years, I have decided my time at Bethesda Softworks has come to an end", Hines writes. "I am retiring and will begin an exciting new chapter of my life exploring interests and passions, donating my time where I can, and taking more time to enjoy life.

In his letter, Hines also mentions the launch of Starfield - Bethesda's first new IP in 25 years.

"This was not a decision I came to easily or quickly, but after an amazing career, culminating in the incredible launch of Starfield, it feels like the time is right", he writes.

"This is certainly not goodbye by any means. My love for Bethesda and its people has never wavered, and I will never stop being part of this incredible community we have grown."

Hines joined Bethesda back in 1999 as SVP of Global Marketing and Communications and was appointed Head of Publishing last year. Hines isn't afraid to mince words, and recently, he called out former Blizzard World of Warcraft team lead Mark Kern over Starfield's supposed 'rushed' start screen. ""Or they designed what they wanted and that’s been our menu for years and was one of the first things we settled on", Hines said on Twitter. He added, "Having an opinion is one thing. Questioning out a developer’s “care” because you would have done it differently is highly unprofessional coming from another “dev”."

We wish Hines the best in his future endeavors.
