Disney released the first (teaser) trailer for its upcoming live-action Beauty and the Beast film on Monday--and it was a big, big hit.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, it amassed 91.8 million views across all channels in its first 24 hours. That makes it the most-viewed trailer ever in its first day, ahead of a trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens (88 million views), which was the previous record-holder.
Beauty and the Beast also topped a trailer for Captain America: Civil War, which picked up 61 million views, while an earlier video for The Force Awakens tallied 55 million views. A trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron was also a big hit, attracting 34 million views, Disney said.
The new Beauty and the Beast comes to theaters on March 17, 2017. The film is a "re-telling" of the 1991 animated classic, which won two Oscars. It's tailored for a "contemporary audience," but also promises to stay true to the original music, while adding some new tunes as well.
The teaser trailer doesn't give much away, but ends with a brief look at Harry Potter alum Emma Watson as Belle. Dan Stevens portrays the Beast. Luke Evans takes on the role of Gaston, while Kevin Kline plays Belle's father, Maurice. Josh Gad plays Lefou and Ewan McGregor portrays Lumiere. Ian McKellen plays Cogsworth.
The movie is directed by Bill Condon, who was behind the camera for the final two Twilight movies.
