During The Game Awards 2023 event, Microsoft and developer Ninja Theory debuted a beautiful new Hellblade 2 trailer.

　　The brand-new trailer is a sight to see and shows off pieces of intense gameplay. In addition to showing off Xbox Series X gameplay, the trailer also features in-game cinematics of the upcoming sequel. You can check out the new 2.30-minute-long trailer below. "The sequel to the award-winning Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, sees Senua return in a brutal journey of survival through the myth and torment of Viking Iceland", the description of the game reads. "Intent on saving those who have fallen victim to the horrors of tyranny, Senua faces a battle of overcoming the darkness within and without."

　　The Unreal Engine 5-powered game from Ninja Theory will take players across hundreds of miles seamlessly across Iceland. According to the developers, the sequel will make the original Hellblade from 2017 look like an indie game. "The goal with Hellblade 2 isn’t to perfect it, but to create an experience that feels more believable and more refined", Ninja Theory's founder and chief design director, Tameem Antoniades, said in an interview last year. "Its ambition in terms of scale is bigger. I think Hellblade 2 will make Hellblade look like an indie game."

　　Senua's Saga Hellblade 2 is coming to Xbox Series X|S and PC sometime next year. A release date has yet to be revealed. Here's what we wrote about the original Hellblade in our review back in 2017:

　　Truth to be told, there's a level of repetition in both the combat and puzzle sections of the game, but not any more than in most games, so I don't see it as a major flaw at all. On the other hand, the game's ending left something to be desired in my opinion - it seemed like Ninja Theory was perhaps trying a little too hard there and the result is a bit confusing.

　　Nonetheless, the journey matters more than the destination, and it was an amazing journey. Before wrapping up, a couple technical notes. First of all, I've talked earlier of how visually arresting Hellblade is in every way. That said, it should be noted that the game's environments are quite small by today's standards, not to mention that environmental interaction is non-existent - Senua will pass through blades of grass with no reaction whatsoever, for instance.
