Battlefield V’s Pacific War Kicks Off Next Week, Includes Iwo Jima, Wake Island, and More-October 2024
Oct 28, 2024 6:21 PM

EA and DICE have been teasing it for a while, but now they’ve finally pulled the curtain back on Battlefield V: War in the Pacific, the fifth chapter in game’s Tides of War live service. As the name implies, the update expands the World War II action to the Pacific Theater, with two new factions (the Americans and Japanese), three maps (Iwo Jima, Pacific Storm, and the classic Wake Island), and of course, the usual slew of new weapons, vehicles, and other additions. Check out a trailer for War in the Pacific, below.

Here’s your full rundown on everything included in War in the Pacific:

  Two New Factions

The American forces charge inland towards unwavering defenses, as brute force tactics clash with the Japanese home ground advantage. In Chapter 5, you’ll get to fight as the U.S. Armed Forces or the Imperial Japanese Army. Deploy with their respective iconic military hardware and equip your Company members with unique outfits to stand out on the battlefield.

  Classic Battlefields, Reimagined

Iwo Jima - The U.S. is attacking Iwo Jima on all fronts, and in this beach landing mayhem you’ll be engaged in a fight over the thinner part of the island. It’s an all or nothing clash across wide-open black beaches and close-range environments like the tunnels of the mighty Mount Suribachi, inviting you to an iconic king-of-the-hill battle.Pacific Storm - The weather is as treacherous as your foes on this set of islands where a game-changing storm may roll in, reducing your sightlines and evolving the battle. Move between islands with your squad and secure the control points using boats, amphibious tanks, or aircraft. As you attack or defend across land, air, and sea – stay on your toes!Wake Island (coming in December) - Arguably the most legendary map since the dawn of Battlefield, Wake Island arrives in December. The map’s iconic, horseshoe-shaped layout ensures dynamic changes to where the action will be – though the Airfield and other areas granting vehicle access are sure to be constant focal points. Keep on the move to win the battle. Use Fortifications to create chokepoints and lure enemy forces into kill boxes.Deploy With New Weapons

The Type 99 Arisaka is available for the Recon class. This weapon is based on one of the strongest military bolt-action rifles ever manufactured. Medic class players will be able to deploy with the Type 100, a Japanese SMG, which will come in handy in close quarters thanks to its rate of fire and control. Finally, there’s the powerful M1919A6, a medium machine gun for the Support class.

As the Tides of War continue, Chapter 5 will bring the M3 Grease Gun, Nambu Type 2A, Type 97 LMG, and M1918 A2, too. Handed out as a Chapter Reward, the Jungle Carbine can be added to your arsenal, too – the same goes for the Type 94 and the Model 27 sidearms. Finally, Tides of War will expand the Assault class’s arsenal with an explosive gadget: the tank-busting Lunge Mine.

  Two New Battle Pickups

The previously mentioned katana is a Battle Pickup, meaning it needs to be found on the battlefield to be equipped. Both factions can use this time-honored melee weapon when the action gets close and personal. Chapter 5’s other Battle Pickup is the M2 Flamethrower, and its man-portable backpack design will make you highly effective against groups of enemy infantry.

  Pilot Iconic Vehicles

The legendary M4 Sherman is a medium tank for the U.S. side with sturdy armor and decent speed. Use the main cannons, machine guns, and sheer massiveness of this steel beast to support your team and win the objective. The Japanese equivalent is the Type 97, a tank with similar characteristics.

The agile LVT and Ka-Mi Light Amphibious Tanks take you across both land and sea, granting many new strategic options for securing your objectives. The Dinghy is another fast (but more vulnerable) way to get across water. When you need quick access to the action – or a hasty escape – jump into the MB Jeep or the Type 95 car.

Want to rule the sky? Your U.S. Company will be able to pilot the F4U Corsair, which comes in both a Fighter and Bomber variant. Pacific air space will also be occupied by the Japanese Zero Fighter, which comes in the same two variants.

  Call In Mighty Reinforcements

As for Reinforcements, the U.S. side can unleash the Sherman Calliope, a Rocket Barrage Tank bringing devastation to enemy infantry and vehicles. The Americans will see Reinforcement favorites return, too, like the JB-2 Rocket, Supply Drop, Smoke Barrage, and Sector Artillery. If you deploy as a Japanese soldier, your squad can access the same pre-existing Reinforcements, with the KI-147 I-Go rocket being the JB-2 equivalent – along with a Rocket Barrage Tank similar to the Sherman Calliope.

  New Elites

Jack Culver - The unflinching Jack is as dangerous behind a mounted machine gun as with his Escape Axe melee weapon. Jack completed a dozen missions in the European theater before being reassigned to the Pacific. Always first to volunteer, he has an ability to push squadmates through what they consider impossible situations and is infamous for expending excess ammunition and explosives.Keisuke Nakamura - Inspiring fearlessness in those who fight alongside him, Keisuke is an experienced, tactical, and natural-born commander, who always finds the perfect moment to strike. An authority on the battlefield and a skilled sidearm marksman, Keisuke believes a precision attack is more effective than the largest raid. Beware his skills – and his Hachiwari melee weapon.Phew! That’s a nice bundle of new stuff! As always, all the new War in the Pacific content will be free for all Battlefield V players.

Battlefield V is available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. The War in the Pacific kicks off on October 31.
