Battlefield 2042 Update 3.2 Brings Back The Class System And Changes The Default Controller Layout-November 2024
Nov 1, 2024 10:30 PM

Battlefield 2042 update 3.2 is here, bringing with it the reintroduction of the class system, alongside a change to the default controls.

The latest Battlefield 2042 update is quite a big one, the most substantial change being the return of the class system you might be familiar with from older Battlefield games. With this update, each Specialist has been assigned to a Battlefield class that "signifies the expected gameplay behavior of that particular Specialist," as described in the patch notes.

Now Playing: Battlefield 2042 | Season 3: Escalation Gameplay Trailer

While the selection of equipment and gadgets was previously open, they are now assigned to specific classes to encourage class-oriented gameplay, with the additional aim of providing structure to "assist with the readability of encounters while you’re on the Battlefield." You can read the full list of which Specialists, class equipment, and class gadgets apply to each class in the patch notes, with more detailed notes for the overall changes in a recent dev blog.

It's important to note that with this big change comes another one--the default controller layout has now changed, so make sure you check out what's different to get accustomed to everything before hopping into a match.

The map Breakaway has seen a number of extensive changes, with a reduction in size to "encourage more intensive encounters," than you might have previously experienced. Some of these changes include the workers village, with military presence and fortification having increased in the area, resulting in "cleaner navigation and shorter distances between capture points."

Thermal scopes are being added with this update too, not an unfamiliar addition to a Battlefield game, but according to DICE, "technical and engine improvements have allowed us to show these scopes in a way that we haven’t done before." In older games, the entire screen would change when using thermal scopes, but it's now possible to have the effect only shown in the scope itself. The list of thermal scopes added to the game can be found in the patch notes.

A new suppressor has been added, the NVK-Box Suppressor, which is two suppressors welded together. It's designed for the NVK-S22, while the active protection system for the M1A5 and T28 is available now too.

Air vehicles will now by immune to lock-ons from vehicle-based weaponry as long as you're flying below 30 meters from the ground, and height restrictions are being put in place for helicopters, as some pilots were flying up high "unleashing havoc," with some lock-on launchers unable to reach that high.

A number of new weapons have been added as well, including the M39 EMR, MTAR-21, and the PP-2000, all of which you can read about in more detail in the patch notes.

There's a long list of other fixes included in the update, with minor changes to the Battlefield Portal, gadgets, gameplay flow, and more, all of which you can again read in the full patch notes.
