Actor Leslie Grace has opened up about the cancellation of her movie Batgirl and has denied that it was ever unreleasable.
Speaking in a Variety interview, Grace was able to finally discuss the production of the now-shelved Warner Bros. DC movie where she starred in the titular role of Batgirl, and spoke on how she had no idea the movie had been shelved until it was first reported. "I found out like the rest of you," Grace said. "And then my phone just started blowing up."
Grace was asked to comment on DC Studios head Peter Safran's saying that Batgirl was "not releasable" and if she had any insight as to whether this was true. The actor said she met with the Warner Bros. Film Group CEOs, Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca, who explained "things that were out of their hands, plans and budgets that were set in place before they were even part of the team. They weren’t really specific on anything creative in terms of what they felt about the film and how it would’ve hurt DC creatively..."
The star actually got to see the film as far as it got to as it "wasn't completed by the time that it was tested," and it was "the one thing" she asked for. Grace said there were "a bunch of scenes that weren’t even in there" and that what she saw was at the beginning of the editing process, but the production team was "cut off because of everything going on at the company."
"But the film that I got to see--the scenes that were there--was incredible," Grace said. "There was definitely potential for a good film, in my opinion. Maybe we’ll get to see clips of it later on."
Peter Safran and co-lead at DC, James Gunn, have since outlined the future of the DC cinematic universe, confirming 10 new movies and TV shows.
