The start of production on Barry Season 3 has been a long time coming. The season was only a week away from shooting early last year when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down movie and TV productions across the world. Season 2 premiered on HBO back in March 2019, with that season's final episode screening immediately after the last-ever episode of Game of Thrones in May that year.
The show stars Hader as Barry Berkman, a former soldier turned assassin who attempts to pursue a new life as an actor while dealing with deep psychological issues. Winkler plays Gene Cousineau, Barry's acting coach, and the cast also includes Stephen Root, Anthony Carrigan, and Sarah Goldberg.
While Barry fans will have to wait a while to watch the next season, the good news is that the production delay allowed Hader and co-writer Alec Berg to work on Season 4. "Season 3 is completely written and ready to go," he told Seth Meyers, via EW, in January. "Then during this time we actually went and wrote Season 4, so we have both of those done. We're just waiting until we can start shooting again."
