Banishers: Ghosts Of New Eden Delayed To February 2024 Thanks To October's "Intense" Release Cycle-October 2024
Oct 23, 2024 10:37 AM

October 2023 looks set to be one of the most stacked months when it comes to high-profile releases, and not wanting to be caught in the wake of games like Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Don't Nod Entertainment has opted to delay Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden from November to a "less saturated" date of February 13.

"We have decided to postpone the release of this new franchise by three months, as the market is experiencing an intense release cycle for AAA titles on PC and consoles at the end of the year," Don't Nod CEO Oskar Guilbert wrote in a press release. "We are convinced that a commercial release of Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden during a less saturated period will give it the attention it deserves."

Now Playing: Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden - Extended Gameplay Trailer

In a follow-up on Twitter, Don't Nod added that while Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is "finished and set for release," the studio aims to give its game a spotlight that won't be overshadowed by some of the biggest games of the year. It's worth noting that while January and February used to be dry months when it came to new releases, things have changed and next year will see some big games launch. Tekken 8 launches on January 26 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is currently scheduled to arrive on February 2, for example.

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden's immediate competition includes a remaster of the original Tomb Raider trilogy, Mario vs. Donkey Kong on Switch, and the early access launch of Nightingale, while February will see the arrival of Destiny 2's The Final Shape expansion and Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth on February 27 and February 29, respectively.

Not much has been revealed about Don't Nod's paranormal extermination game since it was first revealed at Summer Game Fest, but if you're looking for a supernatural romance story that is inspired by the gameplay of recent God of War games, this one might be worth looking at.

"Banishers is Don't Nod's take on an action-adventure game in the mold of 2018's God of War. This becomes evident in how you move through the world with an ally, collect ample crafting elements, upgrade your gear and weapons, solve environmental puzzles to get past obstacles, and routinely slice apart fantastical monsters with colorful combos, both figuratively and literally--even God of War's favored use of bright orange is repeated," Mark Delaney wrote in GameSpot's Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden preview.
