You wouldn't expect a software title developed by a staff writer on the Conan O'Brien show to take itself all that seriously. And Deer Avenger looks to be a title where seriousness is in short supply. But not ammo.
Brian McCann (one of the writers for O'Brien's late night talk show) lent his talents to the development of this title, expected in November from Simon & Schuster Interactive and Cendant Software, in which the deer becomes the hunter.
You can probably guess the plot; in a game eerily reminiscent of GT Interactive's Deer Hunter, four-footed mammals bent on revenge head out to the woods to sniff out and shoot the "illusive big-bellied deer hunter." Players can choose from three locales (and three types of prey) - West Virginia in fall ("Get them redneck hunters before their bladders burst"), Connecticut in spring ("Track yuppie hunters too dumb to stay in their SUVs") and Minnesota in winter ("Look at the goofy hats on those fellers"). In Deer Avenger, deer hunter-hunting deer will use weapons such as M-16s, slingshots (with deer pellets), and bazookas to bag their prey, and employ tools such as binoculars and deer hunter calls ("Free Beer Here" and "Help, I'm naked and I have a pizza" among them) to spot and attract them.
