Baldur's Gate 3 is still in early access, and Larian Studios is continuing to add more features as it approaches completion. The next patch, said to be the largest update to the game yet, will add the first new playable class since launch, the Druids.
The Patch 4 update is called Nature's Power, in fitting with the Druid theme, and it will add the class with all the bells and whistles you'd expect from any other class. That means new dialogue and voice-over, new contextual story moments, and of course, 30 specialized spells and abilities. You can choose one of two Circles as your Druid's background: the Circle of the Land, who are connected to geography, and Circle of the Moon, who have access to more combative morphing abilities.

To that end, Druids are shapeshifters that can adapt their animal form to their surroundings. There will be eight shapes available when the class launches: Deep Rothe, Cat, Raven, Dire Wolf, Badger, Spider, Polar Bear, and Aberrant. You can use the Cat form to sneak into areas undetected, or the Badger to burrow underground. The forms will also open up new dialogue options, as you can assume Bear Shape to talk to a bear.
Patch 4 also includes loads of other changes, and Larian says many of these are in response to requests from early access players. Those include optional loaded dice to ensure you won't get super lucky or unlucky across multiple rolls, improved cinematic animations and lighting, improvements to the Speak with Dead quality, multiplayer enhancements like the ability to see each other's equipment and spells, and quality-of-life improvements like the ability to target friends by clicking on their player portrait. The announcement notes that there is no lock function in the multiplayer, though, so make sure you play with friends you trust not to steal your stuff.
"Reviewing Baldur's Gate 3 at this point in time is a delicate proposition," David Wildgoose wrote in GameSpot's Baldur's Gate 3 early access review. "It shows a good deal of promise, yet there are plenty of warning signs it may not fulfill its potential. But predicting the future is not really the task of an Early Access review. To some extent, it is fascinating to play Baldur's Gate 3 today with the knowledge you will be able to follow its progress over the coming months--and possibly years--with a kind of academic interest in how AAA RPGs are built. You'll be able to witness first-hand how rough cuts are beaten into shape and finally polished. And for some small section of the audience, that alone will be worth the price of admission. For the rest of us, however, there's no rush. Baldur's Gate 3 isn't done yet. It's okay to wait until it is."
