After much waiting and uncertainty, Baldur’s Gate 3 finally arrived on Xbox Series X/S last week, and plenty of folks are eagerly playing on the platform, but a few have run into a fairly serious issue. Apparently, some Xbox players have experienced crashes that resulted in their save files disappearing, which is obviously a pretty big problem. Thankfully, according to the official BG3 X account, a fix may have arrived…
“Xbox players, we’ve pushed a small update to Baldur’s Gate 3 containing stability fixes. We're aware of the issue of saves disappearing after a crash. An update is available from Xbox to help with some of these issues, please manually update your Xbox through the system menu.”
It’s interesting that this save file problem not only requires an update to BG3 itself, but to the Xbox firmware. That used to happen more often in the past, but you don’t see it all that much anymore. It’s also notable that Larian only claims this update will solve “some of these issues,” so perhaps save files aren’t entirely safe yet. Fingers crossed the problem is mostly resolved.
It’s a shame Baldur’s Gate 3 is having some early hiccups on Xbox, as it’s a great game, as laid out in Wccftech’s very positive 9.5 out of 10 review…
“With its engaging story, charming characters, extremely dynamic world that constantly reacts and adapts to the player's actions and choice and a solid tactical combat system, Baldur's Gate 3 is among the best CRPGs ever released. A wonky interface, the lack of some quality-of-life features and Larian Studios' trademark save scumming design impact the experience, but they're only minor issues that don't take away too much from the whole experience. After years in development, Baldur's Gate 3 definitely exceeded all expectations, and in the best possible way.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available to play on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Has anybody been playing the game on Microsoft’s console? Have you run into any trouble?
