Larian Studios has revealed exactly when you'll be able to start playing Baldur's Gate III during their Panel from Hell livestream. An Early Access release is coming to PC and Stadia on September 30, barring any last-minute delays. This release is being framed as the first "act" of the game's Early Access period, which may go for a while.
A new CGI trailer has debuted, showing off Avernus, the first layer of the Nine Hells, and the first area players will visit in the game. If you're a Dungeons & Dragons fan, you'll recognize it from the recent Descent into Avernus module, which will tie into Baldur's Gate III. In the game's opening, players will need to make an escape from the nautiloid ship they're held captive on, even as it jumps between planes of existence.

Other locations will feature in the final game, but they will be announced at a later date.
The stream also showed off what Larian is calling the "lobotomy scene," which happens during the ship escape. It involved the player stumbling upon a corpse with an exposed brain, only to find themselves in direct discussion with said brain, and eventually parting it from the skull it's trapped within--only to discover that it's not a brain, but an Intellect Devourer, a creature that takes over hosts for the Mind Flayers. Yikes.
The game will launch with five "Origin" characters to choose from at launch: Astarion (Elf/Vampire Rogue), Gale (Human Wizard), Lae’zel (Githyanki Warrior), Shadowheart (Half-Elf Cleric), Wyll (Human Warlock). You'll also be able to customize and create your own characters.
Further details, including more details about the classes and races in the game, will be announced closer to Early Access launch. While Baldur's Gate III is only coming to PC and Stadia for now, a release on consoles has not been ruled out.
