Baldur’s Gate 3 Welcomes Jason Isaacs as a Major Antagonist
Baldur’s Gate 3 Welcomes Jason Isaacs as a Major Antagonist-October 2024
Oct 24, 2024 4:23 AM

At Summer Game Fest 2023, Larian Studios revealed that award-winning actor Jason Isaacs (known primarily as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies, although he was also featured in many other high-profile films and TV shows like Mass and Star Trek: Discovery) will play one of the main antagonists in Baldur's Gate 3.

Isaacs, who previously worked on games like Spartan: Total Warrior, Napoleon: Total War, Star Trek Online, and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, plays Lord Enver Gortash. The character is the maker of the magical clockwork soldiers called Steel Watchers. Following the mysterious disappearance of Duke Ravengard, Gortash rises to power and becomes the protector of the city. Isaacs is not the only famous actor who stars in Baldur's Gate 3, as Larian Studios previously announced J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man, La La Land, Whiplash) as General Ketheric Thorm and Matthew Mercer (The Legend of Vox Machina, Critical Role, and countless games) as Minsc, the beloved companion returning from the previous installments.

After nearly three years of early access development, Baldur's Gate 3 is scheduled to launch on August 31st for PC and PlayStation 5. Larian Studios clarified that work is ongoing for Xbox Series S and X, too, but they cannot guarantee a concurrent release date due to technical issues with split-screen co-op that have to be solved on the Xbox Series S.

Baldur's Gate 3 aims to be the 'benchmark adaptation' of Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition in a videogame, according to Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke. It'll include all standard races, classes (Barbarian, Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Sorcerer, Ranger, Rogue, Warlock, Wizard) and their relative subclasses with the full launch.

Developer Larian Studios opened several new offices to ensure it could deliver the best possible adaptation. The latest iteration of the Divinity Engine promises 'unprecedented freedom' when it comes to the interactivity with a world that will be hugely influenced by the player's choices. Larian also massively increased the cinematic feeling thanks to greatly improved cutscenes and facial animations compared to Divinity: Original Sin 2.

As with their previous game, players will also have the option to play Baldur's Gate 3 in multiplayer, though there won't be any Game Master mode at launch here. More Baldur's Gate 3 news will be shared at the PC Gaming Show event, scheduled to air on Sunday, June 11th, at 1 PM Pacific Time/4 PM Eastern Time/9 PM British Time/10 PM Central European Time.
