Avengers Endgame's Joe Russo Playfully Responds To Martin Scorsese's MCU Criticism
Avengers Endgame's Joe Russo Playfully Responds To Martin Scorsese's MCU Criticism-October 2024
Oct 18, 2024 6:26 PM

Martin Scorsese is one of the most prolific and acclaimed filmmakers in movie history and has become a legend in his own time. Joe Russo, one half of the Russo Brothers director team with his brother Anthony, has some of the biggest box office numbers under his belt with Marvel movies including Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.

A few years back, Scorsese fairly criticized Marvel for having a chokehold on movies with their release schedules and how he felt it pushed a lot of middle-budget features out of theaters.

It is still something fans of both directors are talking about, almost to ad nausea. Over the weekend, Russo finally retorted back on this Tiktok with a playful, quick video with his dog jokingly named Box Office in response to Scorsese and his dog, Oscar, which was posted by the Oscar winner's daughter, Francesca.

"Aw look, he's got a schnauzer! I love schnauzers. And his name is Oscar. That's really cute," Russo said in his video. "Ok come on, Box Office."

The playful jab has rubbed many film writers and industry professionals the wrong way, with Russo being called out as "petty." The response video comes at a time when Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon is losing the battle for box office supremacy and at the center of a discussion for movie lengths.

"Joe Russo took hundreds of millions from Netflix to make whatever he wanted, and came up with…The Grey Man," wrote Toonami co-founder and Warner Bros. Discovery’s SVP of action and anime series, Jason DeMarco in a tweet that has since been deleted.

The Russos first jumped on the scene with the pilot for Fox's Arrested Development 20 years ago to eventually direct and produce episodes of NBC's Community. From there they had small hits until Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and the Agent Carter series. They would become the Marvel Studios' staple directing three of the biggest movies in the MCU: Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.
