Later this year, James Cameron's Avatar: The Game is set to launch on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PC, PSP, and DS. For anyone who thought that was too few versions, Ubisoft today announced limited-edition bundles of the game on the 360, PS3, and Wii.
Avatar Jake Scully will come packed in with the Xbox 360 and PS3 limited editions of the game. The limited-edition versions of the game have yet to be priced, but Ubisoft announced the centerpiece additions that could command the premium price point common to such releases. Each of the three limited editions will come packed in with exclusive Mattel action figures based on the movie. The PS3 and 360 versions of the game will come packed in with a six-inch Avatar Jake Scully figure, while Wii gamers will get a glow-in-the-dark four-inch Na'vi Warrior Tsu'Tey.
The PC, 360, and PlayStation editions of Avatar are being developed in stereoscopic 3D, the same technology previously seen in movies such as Beowulf 3D and Monsters vs. Aliens. The games will have their own stories running parallel to the events of the film. Working with Cameron, Ubisoft's developers created new characters, vehicles, and weapons to flesh out the universe of Avatar.
