Aussie set to compete in Starcraft II tournament
Aussie set to compete in Starcraft II tournament-January 2024
Jan 3, 2025 7:59 PM

Eight months after the release of Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty, and the competition is getting serious. After fierce elimination rounds, the 2011 Global StarCraft League World Championship has narrowed contenders down to a final bracket of 16 players--eight from Korea and eight from the rest of the world. The good news is that Australia is represented, with Queenslander Andrew "m00nGLaDe" Pender waving the green and gold at the Korea-based event.

Pender's faction of choice is the Zerg, which for anyone unfamiliar with the Starcraft universe is an alien race out to destroy the galaxy. Because Zerg grunts can be quickly and cheaply built, the term "Zerg Rush" was coined in the '90s to describe players who quickly build up an army and attack as quickly as possible.

Pender's next match is against Canadian Protoss player TT1 on Thursday and will be broadcast online over at GOMtv. While the match will be free to watch, GOMtv is asking people to contribute to its Japan tsunami relief fund.
