Nintendo Australia has announced it will be dropping the price of its DSi and DSi XL consoles from the end of this month.
Starting June 30, 2011, the DSi console will be available for A$199.95 (dropping from A$249.95) and the DSi XL will be available for A$249.95 (dropping from A$299.95).
According to Nintendo, the DS consoles--DS, DS Lite, DSi, and DSi XL--have sold more than 3.1 million units since the original DS launched in 2005. The original DS sold the highest number of all video game consoles in Australia for six consecutive years, while the 3DS, which launched in Australia on March 31, sold more than 31,000 units in four days.
The DSi family will soon be A$50 cheaper.
The DSi launched in 2009 as an upgrade to the DS Lite and featured two cameras with 11 lenses; the capacity to store, play, and manipulate music; an SD memory card slot; larger LCD screens; and the Nintendo DSi Shop. The DSi XL launched in 2010, with screens 93 percent larger than the DS Lite; preinstalled software like the DSi Browser; classic card games; A Little Bit of… Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training: Arts Edition; and Flipnote Studio, an application that can be used as a notepad to create animated sequences with the stylus.
Games that are available on both portable consoles include Art Academy, Brain Training, Mario Kart DS, the Professor Layton series, New Super Mario Bros, and Nintendogs.
