Atari to Purchase Vancouver-Based Revival Studio Nightdive Studios-October 2024
Oct 19, 2024 1:24 AM

Atari is set to acquire the Vancouver-based indie revival studio Nightdive Studios - the studio responsible for reviving lost and forgotten gaming franchises.

The agreement between Atari and Nightdive was announced through an official press release earlier today. In addition to acquiring 100% of the indie studio, Atari has also announced that it plans to advance with the issuance of €30 million bonds convertible into new Atari shares.

Through the acquisition of Nightdive Studios, Atari aims to increase its library of owned IPs, being able to leverage Nightdive's tech, and use the studio's publishing capabilities to support the publisher's retro-focused growth strategy.

“Night Dive and Atari have a long history together and we know that Atari shares our passion for retro games and our focus on producing high-quality new and remastered games that do justice to the original IP", Nightdive Studios'  Stephen Kick and Larry Kuperman said. "As we look to grow our business and expand our capabilities, we could think of no better long-term partner than Atari.”

Atari CEO and Chairman Wade Rosen added, "“Night Dive’s proven expertise and successful track record in commercializing retro IP is well-aligned with Atari’s strategy and I am confident that their combined talent, technology and IP portfolio will contribute to Atari’s future success.”

For those in the unknown - Nightdive is currently working on the upcoming System Shock Remake. The remake was supposed to release this month but was delayed into May earlier this month. In addition to arriving on PC, the remake will also be coming to PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, and Series S|X. More details about the console versions will likely be shared soon.

The System Shock Remake was officially announced following several Kickstarter campaigns over the past few years. “System Shock has been a true labour of love and our goal has always been to deliver a game that is as close to perfect as we can make it,” said Stephen Kick, Founder and CEO of Nightdive Studios.

“We're excited to partner with Prime Matter to achieve that goal and see this as an important step in the growth of Nightdive Studios.

“It will allow us to offer System Shock to fans all over the world, both in digital and physical goods formats, as well as fully honour our commitments to our fans and, in particular, to our thousands of supporters on Kickstarter, without whom this game would have never been possible.”

We'll share more about Nightdive Studios, its System Shock Remake, and Atari as soon as more information comes in.
