Assassin's Creed Mirage Option Makes The Game Look Like AC1
Assassin's Creed Mirage Option Makes The Game Look Like AC1-September 2024
Sep 20, 2024 5:37 PM

Ubisoft is releasing a trio of documentary-style video updates on the development of the studio's upcoming game, Assassin's Creed Mirage, with the intention of giving players a better idea of what to expect. The first video, titled A Return To Roots, was released June 9 and focuses on all the ways Mirage is bringing features from previous games to the franchise's latest addition.

Although the majority of these features affect gameplay itself, developers have revealed a small treat for long\time fans of the series: a desaturated visual filter meant to evoke the same aesthetic as the game that started it all, 2007's Assassin's Creed.

"We know how excited our community is," artistic director Jean-Luc Sala said of the game. "We also have a nice surprise for our long-timers. We implemented a nostalgic visual filter as an option for those who wish to explore the game with the desaturated blue-gray color palette from the very first AC game."

The game sees players take on the role of Basim, a thief who roams the streets of Baghdad seeking answers as he's tormented by mysterious, nightmarish visions. Set in what the studio describes as "the Golden Age of Baghdad," the game's environments are, by default, bright, vibrant, and saturated with color. But players looking for a grittier aesthetic (or simply a change of scenery) can take advantage of the color palette from the original Assassin's Creed game.

Applying the filter creates a dramatically changes the game's look and feel.Naturally, the game is full of new gameplay mechanics as well, including a pole vaulting parkour feature which allows players to quickly travers large gaps between rooftops. But Assassin's Creed Mirage also brings back other popular features from previous titles in the series, including the "corner swing" parkour move, the ability to vault over obstacles, and some elevator/pulley mechanisms that allow players quick access to high ground.

Assassin's Creed Mirage is set to launch on October 13, 2023 and will be available on PlayStation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
