With just a few weeks to go before its premiere, Fox has released an action-packed trailer for 24: Legacy.
There's no getting around the absence of Kiefer Sutherland's Jack Bauer in the new reboot. Today's trailer seeks to convince you it's largely business as usual, just with Corey Hawkins' new character, Eric Carter, in Bauer's place.
At least on the surface, it features many of the same elements of the original iteration of 24, with split-screens, explosions, serious discussions about not being able to stop terrorist attacks, and references to the protagonist's unsurpassed efficacy. But the Bauer character--and Sutherland's shouting voice--were key components to what made the original show so good, and it remains to be seen if that can be compensated for here.
Legacy by and large leaves behind the specifics of the original series. It does, however, extend an olive branch to fans of the show in the form of Tony Almeida, a fan-favorite character whose fate had been left a question mark at the end of the series. The new trailer concludes with old footage of the character, whom we already knew is making a return in Legacy. The promise of seeing more of him may be enough for some fans to give Legacy a chance.
Legacy premieres on Fox immediately after the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 5, with a second episode airing the following night.
