From Software saw a surge in popularity in the West in 2009 thanks to the breakout success of Demon's Souls, which GameSpot named Game of the Year. With Demon's Souls' anticipated follow-up Dark Souls due to hit the West in October, From Software has delayed the latest release of its long-running mech franchise from October to January 2012 in Japan.
No one ever said Armored Cores weren't mobile. In a statement posted to its official website, From Software said that it decided to push Armored Core V after receiving feedback during its Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 beta-testing phase.
Namco Bandai, which is publishing the game in North America and Europe, did not indicate whether this delay would impact Armored Core V's release in those regions. From the onset, Armored Core V had been announced for release in the West next year. Namco Bandai had not returned a request for comment as of press time.
Armored Core V maintains the franchise's focus on high-octane mech combat and comprehensive customization options. From Software has focused on delivering more content this time around by incorporating new environments and enhancing the game's offline mode. Online modes will also be available, ones that will emphasis large-scale, team-based battles.
Armored Core V will also make a substantive break from previous installments in the franchise by offering smaller-scale mechs. The change, in theory, will shift the focus to more tactical gameplay, as opposed to brute-force attacks.
